Hillbank at Barrett Jackson Scottsdale 2010.
Hillbank staff were available at the Superformance and Shelby Distribution booth at Barrett Jackson Scottsdale AZ , January 2010. On the display were fine examples of a CSX6000 Shelby Cobra 427 S/C, Superformance MKIII, the New CSX9000 Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe and a GT40.
Other events at Barrett included the introduction of the Shelby GT350 which coincided with the 45th anniversary of the original 1965 Shelby GT350. This Mustang features a 5.0-liter Supercharged V8 (500 hp) and plenty of performance potential along with a price tag of $33,995 excluding the base car. Each vehicle is listed in the Shelby American World Registry and comes with its original owner's manual and SAAC club documentation.
There were plenty of charity cars up for auction at Barrett-Jackson, but perhaps the one that benefited the most worthy cause was donated by GM. They brought out a 427 Limited edition Corvette Z06 worth more than $80,000 to Scottsdale and promised to donate the entire proceeds of the sale to the American Red Cross to help those who were affected by the devastating earthquake in Haiti.
A 2011 Mustang auctioned for $330,000.00 with the proceeds from the sale benefiting the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. The 2011 5.0 Mustang was introduced a few weeks back in Detroit. The 2011 5.0 Mustang will be the pace car for the upcoming Daytona 500 next month marking the first time a Ford has set the pace for the Great American Racing in forty years.
The weather was uncooperative with Governor of AZ, Jan Brewer declaring a state of emergency on Thursday 21st January following the worst storm in decades. Auction week say more than 1200 collector cars congregated in a small area of AZ. On the Thursday a total of 243 cars were sold through the Barrett Jackson action where the facilities weathered the storm and auctions were uninterrupted. Nearby at Russo and Steele the weather was responsible for lifting the north tent off the ground at about 6:5pm. Russo and Steele shut down the auction and cleared the site and later the south tent also blew over. A collector-car insurance executive estimated damages to the vehicles could exceed $1.5 million.

As with just about any car auction, the words "Shelby" and "Cobra” translate to a lot of money. At Barrett-Jackson this year two of the top sales in the car category were for Shelby Cobra’s. The first was a 1963, 289 Cobra with a fully rebuilt motor generating 417 horsepower. The second was a 1964, 289 chassis CSX2281, which had been rebuilt and restored. Bidding on these cars quickly shot into the six figure digits finally topping the scale at the $400,000 mark. A 1964 Chevrolet Corvette topped the list selling for $550,000 while at the Arizona Biltmore, RM Auctions reported and recorded the highest sale of the week so far which a 1963 Aston Martin DB4 was sold for $1 million dollars.
Two meticulously built Ring Brother Mustangs were auctioned at Barrett Jackson. The “Reactor” Mustang topped out at $253,000.00 and the ‘67 Fastback nicknamed "Copper back” went to a new buyer for $159,000.
All in all the auction generated a lot of good leads for us and was a promise of a more prosperous 2010. Thanks to the organisers and staff at Barrett Jackson and to all who participated on the booth and thoughout the week in Scottsdale.
