Overview

1968 Ford GT40

A Gulf Liveried GT40 won the 24-hours of Le Mans in 1968 and 1969, cementing the sports car's place in racing history. One of the nicest continuation GT40's in the world, P/2291 is a tribute to that incredible feat and would be the centerpiece of any collection.

This GT40 was custom built with the famous 1968/1969 extra-wide body rear clamshell, including larger rear wheels and tires. Clad in Gulf Blue and Orange, the car features original German Talbot side mirrors for a period-correct look.

Powered by a Roush 302 bored and stroked to 347 c.i.d., no expense was spared to build the spectacular, race spec V8. Roush Performance build this engine to dominate on the track. The V8 features premium components including Dart Heads, Jessel Valve Train, and Dry Sump System. Period correct Weber Carburetors top off the 552 HP/478TQ engine while a Bundle-Of-Snakes 180-degree ceramic coated headers scavenge the exhaust. Shifting is smooth with the original ZF Style 5-Speed Transaxle. Power goes to the ground through those extra wide, super sticky Avon Tires. An additional set of wheels with new avon tires is included.

Other race ready features include Front Canards, Radio System, Cool Box, Pro Systems Brakes, Penske Shocks and Springs, Updated Harnesses, and Log Books. The stock seats and Air Conditioning have been removed for racing, but are included with the car so it can be returned to stock for street use if desired. Drivetrain installation and race prep done by Olthoff Racing in North Carolina.

This car has logged more championships and podiums in HSR and SVRA than any other, just a few of which include first in class at the 2017 Sebring Historics, back to back wins at the 2019 Sebring Historics and HSR Daytona Historics, and an overall championship in HSR in 2021. Lap times at Sebring are 2:14 and at Daytona are 1:57.

This is an authentic continuation GT40 race car manufactured under the scrutiny of Safir GT40 Spares, Ltd., the undisputed legal holder of the GT40 trademark which will be equally at home extending its racing legacy on the track or terrorizing the local streets.

GT40 P/2291 is licensed and registered in Florida as a 1966 SUPO and is available for purchase at $299,950
