Overview

1962 Shelby Cobra

Shelby Cobra CSX8024

In 1962, Carroll Shelby took the sports car world by storm when it introduced CSX2000, the first Cobra sports car. Shelby American took the AC “Ace” chassis, inserted a small block Ford engine and re-engineered the car to handle the additional power. Weighing only 2,020 pounds, the Cobra easily vanquished sports cars from Jaguar, Chevrolet, Porsche, Aston Martin and others.

Shelby American continues to offer a limited number of 289 Cobras each year. The "slab side" street cars are true to the roadsters built in the 1960s and worthy of the Shelby American name. Light, nimble and reliable, the street small block Shelby Cobra combines iconic good looks with sharp handling and an amazing power-to-weight ratio.

The roadsters incorporate safety and performance improvements without sacrificing originality. Almost six decades after CSX2000 was unveiled at the New York Auto Show, the Shelby Cobra is still capturing hearts.

CSX8024 was completed by renowned Shelby Cobra experts McCluskey Ltd in 2009. The stunning emerald green Shelby has polished front and rear bumpers, Cobra badges on nose and trunk, rear exhaust and period correct chrome 15-inch wire wheels with spinners and wearing Michelin XWX tires; the sports car even includes a spare tire in the trunk.

The 327 c.i.d. Bennet Racing Engine makes 397 lb/ft torque and 477 horsepower; it is mated to a David Kee aluminum top loader transmission. The OEM style alloy differential unit features a 3:54 ratio and the car stops using original style brakes (1"x11-7/16" OD disc, dual piston Shelby calipers up front while 3/4 x 11-7/16" OD disc, dual piston Shelby calipers are at the rear). The Shelby Cobra has a 3-inch diameter DOM steel frame and retains the authentic style leaf spring suspension but was upgraded to contemporary standards. The upper transverse leaf spring system features and independent front and rear suspension

The period correct interior features a glove box, wooden steering wheel, black leather interior and Stewart Warner gauges.

Shelby Cobra CSX8024 is titled in California as a 1962. With only 625 miles on the odometer, CSX8024 is available for $330,000.
