Overview

1964 Shelby Daytona

CSX9167
The Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe was the final piece of the puzzle that Shelby American needed to capture the FIA sports car world championship. It won the crown in 1965, becoming the only American manufacturer to do so. Peter Brock designed the slick, aerodynamic body that gave the Daytona the edge on high-speed tracks around the world. Only six Daytona coupes were built during the 1960s, but they carved out an unforgettable racing legacy.

The CSX9000 series is a modern evolution of the car that ruled the track in 1965. Penned by original designers Peter Brock and Bob Negstad and constructed by Shelby American, the CSX9000 Continuation Daytona Coupes have a larger passenger compartment than the original race cars, allowing for greater comfort, and feature a tubular space frame constructed of mild steel.

CSX9167 carries on that championship spirit with its Guardsman Blue paint and Wimbledon White racing stripes. Roundels on the doors, hood, and rear carry the number 98, Carroll Shelby's favorite racing number, and also fielded at various times by such legendary Shelby team drivers as Dan Gurney, Ken Miles, and Dave MacDonald. Accents include a period correct Le Mans-style fuel filler cap, a rear spoiler, standard reverse light, Shelby signature door latches, functional ducts and scoops for cooling and brakes, and polished 18-inch wheels with dark gray centers mounted with Nitto tires.

CSX9167's performance capabilities back up the competition GT looks thanks to a Roush 427IR small block Ford V8 with Borla 8-Stack fuel injection, silver ceramic headers feeding side pipes, engine oil cooler, and an aluminum radiator. The engine is teamed with a 6-speed TREMEC manual transmission and power is sent out back to an aluminum limited slip differential.

Handling and stopping ability are equally sharp, with independent suspension with coilover shocks and springs, power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering, and Shelby GT-spec disc brakes. The CSX9000-series comes standard with a 21 gallon stainless steel fuel tank.

The interior is ready for Grand Touring adventures, with air conditioning, leather bucket seats with Shelby logos, Alcantara headliner and dash surface, Dynamat sound deadening, original style Stewart-Warner gauges, power steering, power windows, and power door locks. A roll bar adds security to the premium interior materials.

Eligible for the Shelby American Automobile Club owners registry, CSX9167 is titled in Ohio as a 1964 Shelby 2d Cobra Coupe, has only 1,200 miles and is now listed for $264,950.
