CSX7973 Aluminum 289 FIA 50th Anniversary Cobra

In 2014, Shelby American announced a special production run of 50th anniversary 289 FIA Continuation Cobras commemorating the FIA sanctioned Shelby roadsters that competed for the 1964 and again in 1965 World Manufacturers' Championship season. Only 50 of these anniversary Shelby Cobras were made, and CSX7973 is an outstanding example of these seldom-seen sports cars.

Featuring the optional hand-formed aluminum body, the car is finished in Viking Blue with white racing roundels and a red FIA nose stripe accented by a hood scoop, fender vents, driver's side roll hoop, quick jack bumperettes, Le Mans style fuel filler, and wing windows. This Shelby Cobra looks like it took a checkered flag in 1964 and certainly sounds like it too, with a 289ci four-barrel V8 underhood, enhanced by a Scott Drake intake manifold, tubular headers leading to side exit exhaust, a front mounted oil cooler, and aluminum radiator with electric fan. The engine is dressed with Shelby-branded valve covers. It is backed by a 5-speed manual transmission.

With its original style transverse-leaf springs, the CSX7000 series delivers an authentic period sports car driving experience. It is enhanced with subtle improvements over the 1960s first generation cars, such as an updated 3-Inch diameter steel frame and Wilwood disc brakes at all four corners.

The interior is a welcoming environment for spirited driving, with bucket seats trimmed in black leather, latch-and-link lap belts, dashboard-mounted rearview mirror, a fire suppression system, and Shelby-branded aluminum pedals. Gauges include a Carroll Shelby-script tachometer and 160 mph speedometer, along with gauges for fuel level, water temperature, voltage, and oil pressure and temperature. A machined FIA Cobra 50th Anniversary emblem is the centerpiece of the wood-rimmed steering wheel.
