1962 Shelby Cobra

Every once in awhile a car comes in that really turns our heads, a car that has the look, the sound, and the pedigree that is expected when you hear the name Shelby. CSX8058 is that car!!!

CSX8058 started as bare aluminum shell and round tube frame, The team at Hillbank Motorsports in Irvine, CA sent the body to get professionally painted Jet Black and sent that to the Cobra Doctor himself. The Cobra Doctor, if you do not know, is world renowned Cobra restorer and builder Mike McCluskey. Mike sourced the parts from either Shelby Legendary Cars in Irvine or from the UK directly. Mike was given very specific instructions, build this car as if you were building it for yourself.

He went with a 1964 289 Slab Side Dash design, with a 1967 427 style roller lock for the glove box door. The wiring harness came from the UK as well as the fuel filler cap and Girling Brake and Clutch Reservoirs. The period correct latches, snaps, and door ferrules were specifically selected for a period correct aesthetic. The Electronic Stewart Warners offer the blend of history and reliability.

The heart beat of this beauty is a 302 stroker 347 cubic inch small block making 400HP and paired with a Tremec 5 Speed TKX transmission. With the larger horsepower, Mike opted for the FIA style harrison water expansion tank to provide better cooling than the standard early 260/289 water expansion tanks. a Round air cleaner and Black finned Cobra Valve Covers complete the underhood ensemble.
