Overview

1962 Shelby 289 Cobra "Slab Side"

Superformance Cobra MKII Slab Side SPS0056
When Carroll Shelby introduced the first Shelby Cobra roadster in 1962, the automotive industry gasped in disbelief. Then a new generation of fans were born when the car appeared in the hit international film “Ford v Ferrari” a few years ago.

It is easy to understand why people are so smitten with this amazing sports car. For pure sports car soul, it's hard to beat the original Cobra. Lightweight, responsive, cleanly styled, and unburdened by unnecessary complexity, it was created for driving pleasure in its most distilled form.

The Superformance MkII Slab Side captures the elegant yet aggressive design of the original small-block Shelby Cobra that became an icon of American performance in the 1960s. Built under an exclusive agreement with Carroll Shelby Licensing Inc., this officially licensed Shelby product faithfully honors the classic “slab side” body style—defined by its straight, clean fenders and timeless proportions.

SPS0056 embodies all those characteristics and more. It is the ultimate gentleman's Cobra, finished in a deep Indigo Blue teamed with a warm and rich Amarotta Tan interior. A clear bra protects the paint during pleasure drives. The flashy chrome wire wheels with spinners recall an era of classic motoring, as do the 289 Shelby Cobra badges adorning the exterior. This MKII has polished bumpers, the optional hood scoop, and a polished roll bar.

For days when the open road calls, SPS0056 answers with a Roush 347R, fitted with an Edelbrock Performer RPM high-rise, dual-plane intake manifold and Holley carburetor. The V8 is dressed to impress with finned Roush valve covers and air cleaner. The powerful engine is teamed with a Tremec TKX 5-speed manual transmission.

The cockpit offers a classic driving environment with an original style 289 Street Dash with gauges, door and rear map pockets, and a classic Motolita hardwood-rimmed steering wheel. Key throwback features include original style pedals, catches, fittings, shifter and hand brake lever.

The Superformance MK II Slab Side is constructed on an original John Tojeiro designed round-tube chassis. It has rack & pinion steering, limited slip differential, and fully independent front and rear transverse leaf spring style suspension. Stopping power is from Wilwood vented disc brakes.

SPS0056 is sold on MSO and is offered for $142,950.
